It was such a physical match. I couldn’t believe they were hitting 100mph winners in the fourth set! A truly epic stand by Nadal, and amazing toughness from both players.

Was looking forward to your take on the match as soon as I found out what had happened. I caught some of the rebroadcast, including Nadal’s backhand miss in the 5th set that you mentioned. I never found myself thinking of a tennis match as violent until today. They just punished the ball over and over. It was tiring just watching it! :)

Thanks for the textutil tip! I’ve been helping friends publish ePubs lately, and Pandoc has been a major part of my toolkit. I’ve been using OpenOffice’s DOC to HTML conversion, but as you’ve said, textutil produces cleaner HTML markup.

You’re not sure why? It’s clear that Gravity’s Rainbow sucks the life out of people. It must be stopped.

I’m sorry I somehow missed this post the first time around. Sometimes I wonder if it takes some of us longer to enjoy life than others, and that it has more to do with time spent just being alive than anything else. Not that the habits you’re cultivating aren’t expediting things–it’s likely that they are. Of course, I say this as a paxil-devotee, so take it with a grain of salt. ;)

I understand that for you this piece may simply be about the piece itself and not some narrating style or connection to other pieces. However, for me it’s kind of related to the words you wrote about foxes in Dublin and equally satisfying and serene in tone. In short, I’d like to spend more time with this narrator – not something I say lightly, because while I do sometimes feel affection for narrators it’s never happened with my own work or when reading the work of someone I know.

Above average seems an overly harsh self assessment, You must have reached at least competent, if not dangerous. I don’t know enough about MTG ( harmless / mostly harmless ) to comment on your strategies or tactics but I played a little bit of magic way back and you are the only person I know who competed on an international level with some credibility.
The ‘not updating mental model’ problem is a very common one in all walks of life , people tend to stick with what has worked for them in the past, even after it has become inaccurate or sub optimal. I suspect the only answer to this is getting the correct level of difficulty, not so much that the problem seems insurmountable but not so easy that your current outlook is successful all the time.
